TV Poetry Anthology Seeks Submissions
Seeking work for an anthology of television poems for Poets Wear Prada, a NJ-based press. We're projecting release in 2013. There are anthologies of movie poems and music poems. As far as I’ve been able to determine, there are no anthologies of poetry about a medium that has affected our language, our perceptions of the world, our politics, our economy, our opinions, and our tastes and interests. We're seeking poems, prose poems, list poems and catalogues, hybrid forms, etc. about television in all its aspects: network and cable, the sit-coms, the news, the crime and medical dramas, The Sopranos and The Borgias, made-for-TV movies, actors and actres ses, personalities, characters, theme songs, advertisements, and, of course, the medium’s history. By “personalities,” I mean people like Johnny Carson, Dan Rather, Ellen DeGeneres and Bill O’Reilly. Drivers Wanted!
Calling all Road Warriors: Issue nine of Workers Write!, tentatively titled Tales from the Concrete Highway, will contain stories and poems from the driver's point of view. We're looking for fiction from taxi cab drivers and chauffeurs, truck drivers, delivery drivers and couriers, forklift operators . . . anyone who uses a wheeled vehicle for work (even pit crews and stunt drivers). Hiking the Grand Canyon
Vishnu Temple Press, in collaboration with editor Rick Kempa, is seeking well-crafted essays for an anthology that captures the experience of hiking in the Grand Canyon. We are interested in writing that conveys the sights and sounds, the texture and spirit of that place, and the richness of your immersion. We are open to all kinds of approaches, including writing that depicts: * the sensory experience of a Canyon hike * close encounters with flora and fauna, rock and water * the specifics of particular places * interactions with other humans, present or past * adventures and discoveries * physical and psychological challenges, and their surmounting * new or renewed perspectives that arise from a Canyon immersion No poetry or fiction please. The deadline for submissions is December 31, 2012. Poems About Florida
In honor of the 500th anniversary of Florida's discovery by Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de Leon, Ryan G. Van Cleave and Virgil Suarez are co-editing FLORIDA: A POETRY CELEBRATION (publication date: 2013, specific publisher TBA). Payment will be one contributor copy. We are inviting submissions of poetry on the Sunshine State during June/July 2012. While there's a premium on work by current Florida residents, we are open to receiving poems from those not living here now but who have significant connections/experiences with this state. New work is preferred, though previously published material is fine if the author still retains publication rights. Florida is a lot more than just beaches, Mickey Mouse, alligators, and the Everglades, and we hope the range of poems reflects that diversity and sense of history. The poets in this anthology intervene in the ways violence against women is perceived in American culture by deploying techniques to challenge those narratives and make alternatives visible.
