The contest is open to all nonfiction writers. We're looking for essays and memoir, lyric and experimental forms, non-linear narratives and blended genre. The winner receives $1,000 and publication in our September 2012 (Volume 14) issue. Entries must be previously unpublished and must be no longer than 20 pages. There is a $20 submission fee that includes a two-year subscription. We accept submissions through our submission managing system: Tell It Slant. We will not be accepting essay contest submissions through postal services or to SLR's email account. Formatting Manuscript: All manuscripts must be in 12-point font, double-spaced, with at least one-inch margins, and sequentially numbered pages. Pecan Grove Press
In celebration of our 25th anniversary, we have established an annual prize of $1,000, 25 copies, and publication for a first book of short stories. Ito Romo will judge, the award named after H. Palmer Hall, celebrating his 20th year as director of the press. Submit between 125–150 manuscript pages, double-spaced, size 12 font with a $15 entry fee. New Mirage Journal
We are now accepting submissions of short stories. We are interested in high quality work that dares to speak of race, the human condition, the "struggle", in fresh new ways. Your story should be inspired by reality, mythology, folklore, or fairytales. Please submit one short story of no more than 10 pages long with a short bio. of no more than 50 words. All submissions must be sent as attachments via our submissions manger. Submissions that reach the editor via other means will not be accepted. Simultaneous submissions will be considered for publication. Please wait until you receive an acceptance or rejection notice before submitting again.
